The National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) is the first monument or museum where Americans from all over the country can celebrate and honour their war veterans. It will bridge historical events to current concerns, strengthening the understanding and respect between veterans and civilians.

It features include a great hall with unprecedented views of the Scioto River, numerous exhibition galleries, a memorial room and space for gatherings and public events.

Design Assist Service

APA Facade Systems provided our system partners Flynn Group of Companies with our complete package, including fabrication of our curtain wall systems, logistics management and a design assist service. Our highly experienced technical team were always on hand to provide Flynn’s staff with support and guidance through out all stages of the build.

The Challenge

The challenge our design team faced with the National Veterans Memorial and Museum was to integrate our curtain wall system from floor to ceiling, in places spanning 41 ft. unsupported, into a building surrounded by a concrete ribbon, making it impossible to glaze in a traditional manner. Transom lines were required to follow the bespoke facade of the building meaning that each of the 230 mullions were uniquely installed.

A specially designed TB50 curtain wall system was fabricated by APA, consisting of free spanning millions, up to 41 ft high. This bespoke curtain wall system surrounds the entirety of the NVMM building, with the total cost of the glazing works on this project surpassing the $10 million mark.

The Brief

Certification: LEED Silver

System Used: TB50 Structurally Glazed Curtain Wall System

Location:  York University, Toronto

Client: Laing O Rourke

Architect: ZAS Architects

The Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence officially opened on April 8th, 2016. Designed by ZAS Architects + Interiors and built by construction firm Laing O’Rourke, it is the new home of the Lassonde School of Engineering.

The building is designed with a student-centric philosophy in mind that challenges the look of a traditional engineering school. The structure’s unique architectural design reflects its main purpose – a hub for entrepreneurship, collaboration and creativity.

The Bergeron Centre - LEED Silver

Complex Design

The Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence has a cloud-like triangular glass facade, it’s comprised of a series of triangles positioned according to a precise and complex algorithm. Evoking the properties of a cloud, it reflects light and pattern across campus and into the interior.

The Challenge

As the intricate triangular-shaped facade design on the Bergeron Centre was arranged in a mathematically derived Penrose Pattern that never repeats. This meant that every one of the buildings 8,000 triangular metal panels and windows were unique.

Our structurally glazed TB50 curtain wall system was installed on this project. The glass is secured by means of specially designed toggles providing the external facade with a flush, uninterrupted surface.

Sustainability

The Bergeron Centre received Silver LEED Certification, proving it to be a highly efficient, cost-saving, green building.

Our team is committed to excellent environmental practice towards a more sustainable environment. Our aluminum glazing profiles are designed and manufactured to conform with industry environmental standards, helping to achieve silver, gold or platinum LEED certification.

Gansevoort Street, New York

Drawing prepared for a refurbishment project on the old meat packing area of new york

APA Facade Systems have won the contract for an exciting new project in New York City.

Our TB50 curtain wall, ST70 casement and tilt and turn window systems are being installed on the redevelopment of the old meatpacking district on Gansevoort Street in New York by our system partners.

Situated between Greenwich Street and Washington Street, 60-74 Gansevoort Street will be an alteration and enlargement of the existing building.

Aurora Capital Associates and William Gottlieb Real Estate are the developers for this project with BKSK Architects designing it. Fellow Irish company Carey Glass is supplying the glass for this historic development. The full project, at 46-74 Gansevoort Street, is expected to feature roughly 100,000 square feet of retail space.

APA’S Continuous Roof Glazing Gasket

APA Roof Glazing Gasket design

The designers in the APA Facade Systems office designed the Continuous Roof Glazing Gasket. The purpose of this gasket is to reduce the risks of air leakage and water penetration. It runs continuously along the length of the mullion(buck) with no breaks ensuring any water or condensation, flows directly to the bottom of the glazing bar.

Our wrap-around gasket will now feature on any large atrium roof light constructed using our TB60 System. Taking into consideration the fragility of glass roofs, we recommend using our 60mm facade system as the thicker profile results in a stronger performance.

For further advice with any of your fenestration systems, please contact a member of our team at your earliest convenience

Oxford Properties Group

Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, just steps from the historic Gastown District, is 402 Dunsmuir. This LEED Gold development is the newest addition to anchor tenant Amazon’s office space in BC.

Amazon’s first purpose built office building in Vancouver will become the workplace for 1,000 of their office staff. The new nine-storey, 152,000-sq-ft building will also include a communal space similar to WeWork, for employees looking for a temporary office space.

Amazon Vancouver - APA Facade Systems

Design Requirements

Oxford Properties outlined clear design requirements. 402 Dunsmuir had to be a cost-effective, secure, and integrated building solution that prioritized operations, comfort and energy efficiency.

Architecturally, the building’s thick mullions are designed to emulate classic warehouse design, perfectly complimented with the black external finish. It provides a beautiful contrast to the neighbouring Holy Rosary Cathedral, respectfully combining old and new.

The Challenge

“The challenge is to maintain engagement with the city’s past while propelling it into the future through the design of a social space for innovation that responds to Canada’s vision for smart, better and greener communities” – B + H Architects.

Flynn Group of Companies installed over 200 of our structurally glazed, triple-glazed concealed frame awnings. Featuring on every elevation of the building, our thermally enhanced CFA’s fit directly within the framework, providing ventilation to the internal environment of the building, whilst not affecting the appearance or geometry of the external facade.

402 Dunsmuir Street - Amazon - APA Facade Systems

The Result

Our structurally glazed, triple-glazed, concealed frame awnings were seamlessly integrated with the structurally glazed external facade. They bring natural ventilation to the inside of the building, without compromising aesthetics or natural light.

402 Dunsmuir achieved LEED Gold Certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), for outstanding environmental performances.

Amazon Office – Dunsmuir Vancouver

Amazons new offices fitted with APA facade systems products

APA Facade Systems have teamed up with Flynn Group of Companies in Canada to work on the new Amazon offices in Dunsmuir, Vancouver.  This will be Amazon’s second office in downtown Vancouver adding about 1,000 new workers to its current workforce of more than 1,800 people in B.C.

This beautiful building is designed by B+H Architects. Their design for 402 Dunsmuir aligns with the city’s ambitions of attracting North America’s top tech and entrepreneurial talent. Located at the heart of downtown Vancouver just steps from historic Gastown District, this home for a Global Tech Firm is specifically designed for its anchor tenant, elevating the city’s position in a highly competitive and constantly evolving sector.

The ground floor will feature retail opportunities with three further floors dedicated to spacious office space. The second floor consists of 6,600 square feet of space and will include conference and fitness facilities. Architecturally, the building’s thick mullions are meant to emulate classic warehouse design.

“Decidedly industrial in its design vernacular, the vision for the project is inspired by urban lofts and industrial conversions, which are commonplace in the city, yet the building will provide amenities and efficiencies that older retrofits simply cannot. Planning, process and technology are utilized to their fullest potential as the project responds to Canada’s vision for smart, better and greener communities.” B+ H Architects.

APA manufactured over two hundred of our  Triple Glazed TB SG Concealed Frame Vents (CFV) for this 152,290 ft² project, which is targeting LEED® Gold certification.
