Clonakilty Community College underwent a state-of-the-art extension, made possible by a significant investment of €10.5 million by the Cork Education and Training Board (Cork ETB).
The new two-storey 3,195 m² building was built by West Cork builders, Cahalane Brothers and designed by KOBW Architects. The extension provides 10 additional classrooms, as well as a variety of multidisciplinary rooms.
It was the first school in the country to be designed around the Department of Education and Skills’ ‘Schools of the Future’ room layouts. This concept focuses on ventilation, good quality air and movement, extra spacing and light. The classrooms are naturally ventilated, with both high- and low-level windows opening to encourage air circulation and flows.
Our ST70 Hi provided the perfect solution for natural ventilation, while the large sash dimensions provided the building with a substantial increase of light. Installed alongside our TB50 curtain wall system by our installation partners West Architectural Facades.
Much of the new facilities in Clonakilty Community College will be devoted to Special Education, including special facilities for students living with autism. Clonakilty was recently named Ireland’s first certified Autism Friendly Town.
